28 hurt in food factory explosion

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/28-hurt-in-food-factory-explosion-2010611.html

There was an explosion at a foodfactory today in Bonehill Road, Tamworth, Staffordshire. It happened just before midday. Twenty-eight people got hurt. It happened in a freezer at the Brakes depot. A man had burn injuries of 15 percent and he was taken to the hospital. The conditions of the other people are still unknown. There were twenty-eight fire fighters to fight the explosion . The blast happened during a routine maintenance in the centre’s refrigeration plant. A chemical leak occurred and a small amount of ammonia got out. The engineer who was maintaining the refrigerator got hurt. He was driven immediately to the hospital. Other employees received minor medical attention and a couple were taken to the hospital. The center was immediately evacuated. The emergency services are assuring the people that there are no cause for concern regarding the ammonia.

It is an awful thing that happened at the plant. This is still a plant which is operated by people and people still make mistakes. This isn’t a accident which you can totally blame on one person. It happened. I think the emergency people in Staffordshire did a very good job. They helped the people as fast as possible and the people who needed it where send to the hospital. Also the firefighters did a great job, not only fighting the explosion but also evacuating the center as fast and safely as possible. I hope everyone survives.

Internet pornography to get its own red light district as .xxx name approved

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2010/jun/25/internet-pornography-companies-xxx-domain

ICM is trying to make the internet’s first red light district. It will happen after the suffix xxx has been approved. Today is the beginning of the process of registering xxx domain. This is marking the closing stages of a ten year battle of ICM Registry with Suart Lawley, a British internet entrepreneur. It took them ten years to set up the xxx domain. The .xxx domain will be set up so that legal pornography sites can be found in a single group. Many pornography companies are not happy with the set up. They think that all the sex related sites have to re-register and it will remove them from other domains and it will be easier to filter them out and it will be harder to find them.

I think it is a great Idea to put them together. I think I don’t see any problems. Why shouldn’t be a red light district. It is easier to check up on them, because their all together now. I think the pornography companies are complaining for nothing. If someone wants to find porn they will. The .xxx domain is suitable and it is easy. All the porno buffs will know where to find them. If they really want to.

Man convicted of £40m Graff jewellery heist

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/jun/25/man-convicted-graff-jewellery-heist

Aman Kassaye a young man of 25 who held a gun against a shop assistant has been convicted. Aman participated in Britain’s biggest jewel heist last summer. The robbers raided a jeweler store and gotten away with 40 million pounds of jewels and money. Aman had now address and he was found guilty by the crown court. They found him guilty of kidnap, conspiracy to rob and for possession of a fire arm. They did not convicted him for another gun possession charge. The jury is still thinking about convicting six other people who participated in the heist. The gems where stolen from the Graff Diamonds in Mayfair and the store has never recovered after the robbery. Aman said the person robbing the bank was just looking very similar to himself, but the person who was held by gunpoint recognized Aman. Aman was disguised and tried to get out of the capital. When they got out of the store they tried to shoot everyone who gotten in their way.

I think this is very funny. The funny part is that Aman is trying to weasel himself out of it by lying. He has been recognized and still he says it wasn’t him. I hope no one got hurt. But this situation is traumatic enough. It is really sad that the shop never recovered. I hope in time it will. I thought even bad publicity is good publicity probably not. I hope they put him away or force him to work of his dept. So he can be useful for society.

Teen-repellent buzzing devices ruled discriminatory

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/teenrepellent-buzzing-devices-ruled-disciminatory-2010597.html

The watchdog of Europe’s Human right is appalled by the ‘youth dispersal’. The device treating young people like subhuman’s. The council made of MP’s from 47 state members are deciding in banning the devices after calls have been made against the devices. The device makes a powerful high pitched sound and is audible to every one 20 and for some above 25. Al Aynsley-Green made a new campaign against the mosquito machines. The machine is aiming to break up gangs and stop them from hanging around. It will help against youngsters that want to make trouble , it will keep them away and prevents them from doing any harm or making any trouble. Mister Aynsley says it is a breach of the young people human rights.

I think it is a great way to break of gangs. Why do people complain about human rights when they try to scare away people who hardly know anything about human rights. They hardly know any values so why respect them if they do not respect other people’s property and hang around. Why don’t they just do something useful. We should stop saying that it is away to create your own identity. There are rules and they shouldn’t break them but we let them so why aren’t we aloud to prevent it.

Ed Miliband suggests taxing graduates to fund universities

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/darfuri-teenager-killed-himself-after-being-told-ndash-wrongly-ndash-of-deportation-1990011.html
Milliband said today in the Guardian that he would talk to vice-chancellor and universities to make a plan to replace the tuition fees you pay at the beginning with a graduate tax. Milliband hopes the parliament and Lord Browne will consider this proposition . Lord Browne is researching and reviewing the higher education funding. Lord Browne thinks he will be ready to report after the summer. Milliband say that he thinks Britain needs a ‘new settlement’. It needs to help students and their families to take the load of their burden. There have been studies that show that if you change the intuition fees that a student pays at the beginning of a year to a graduate tax of 0.25 % to 2% that students pay after graduation and the tax will come of their income, it could raise more money for the universities that the system they have now.

I think it has its up and its downs. It is better for the universities and for the students if they cannot afford it at the moment. But I wonder if you can are you forced to pay the graduate tax or can you pay immediately. Because after your finished you have a burden before you have done anything. And is this all or is there more to it. Because what happens with the people who are studying a profession that takes a long time to find a job? Overall I think it is a great Idea. But the thought of paying a tax for over 20 years seems like a burden.

Darfuri teenager killed himself after being told – wrongly – of deportation

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/darfuri-teenager-killed-himself-after-being-told-ndash-wrongly-ndash-of-deportation-1990011.html

In Britain on Christmas Eve 2007 a prison guard gave Abdullah Hafar Idris a document. Abdullah had been in prison to wait until Britain decided he could stay or he had to leave. On Christmas Day they opened the doors to Abdullah’s prison cell. Abdullah was found lifeless hanging by his bed sheets. Abdullah who couldn’t read properly read the documents and came to the conclusion that he had to leave Britain an return to Darfur, which he left so he wouldn’t be prosecuted. If he had been able to talk to a solicitor he would have known the opposite was true. That the document he received said that he was granted to stay in the United Kingdom. He would also know that Brittain did not send immigrants back to Darfur because of the violence. Abdullah Hagar Idris would have known that his claim was accepted and that he would have a live.

I find this ridicules. That they give an Immigrant who has been waiting in prison and might not have any knowledge of the English knowledge a document in English and have him read it. This is a huge mistake that the government made. They could give the document and ask him if he can read it. With just one question it could have turned out different. I don’t understand that they do not have someone that helps these people. Is this a result of the credit crunch. Britain is a country with so much nationalities and half of them don’t even speak proper English even British people themselves have problems and they expect from a scared immigrant that he must read a document. Is this document in plain English or in legal terms, if so it makes it even more stupid. I have trouble reading legal documents in my mother tongue.

'Pounds for pounds' scheme helps obese people shed stones

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/pounds-for-pounds-scheme-helps-obese-people-shed-stones-1993285.html

The first NHS scheme that started in 2009 has helped over 100 obese people to lose two stones in one year. To stimulate obese people, to lose weight and start a healthier way of life, they offered the obese people who participated in a “Pounds for Pounds sceme”. It was only a trail but it proved it helped for some people. The volunteers who signed op would receive cash up to 425 pounds. The cash payments were offerd by the NHS primary care trust in Kent. 402 obese people participated and 100 completed the course and they lost 25lb over the year. It is only a quarter of the total, two third failed. The mixed results are a disappointment and does not really promote financial rewards to change your unhealthy life style. A group of experts do conclude cash as a reward to lose pounds may persuade people.

The important word in this report is MAY. It MAY help some people to change their life style. I do not believe they should waste their money on something where only a quarter will sit it out. I believe that if you are obese and become ill and do nothing and did not even try to change your life they shouldn’t be able to get free health care. It is an addiction so like other addictions they should be forced to change their life style. Not only by forcing them to exercise but also therapy. Because sometimes people eat excessively because of their problems.

Survey highlights a life sitting on the sofa

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/survey-highlights-a-life-sitting-on-the-sofa-1994432.html

Four out of ten people in the United Kingdom has never ridden a horse or done some other outdoor activities. This according to a recent survey about outdoor activities in Britain. Fifty nine percent of the people who participated in the survey had never done even basic activities like swimming in natural water. Most of the people of the research said they haven’t been given the chance and 33 percent said they were too scared to try. Londoners are the ones who are the most afraid of doing outdoor activities. The research also showed that a lot of people lie on their CV about doing outdoor activities. Thirty three percent admitted about lying about outdoors activities to show off on a date.

It is really sad to think about Londoners spending more time on the sofa then doing something outdoors. It is a great idea to do a research about these things. I believe a lot of people are thinking they are the only one sitting on the sofa but a great number of people don’t leave the sofa. Maybe after this research they can organize something for the people who participated in the survey. London is suffering the most because of the dangerous transportation, If I were them I wouldn’t go outside and cycle over there and where in London can you take a swim in natural water? Some things aren’t possible in such a big city. But there are a lot of other activities that can make you go outside, like rowing and hiking.

£150,000 trickster must pay back £1

Emme Charlton, a con woman was jailed for conning her own grandmother. In March she was jailed for fraud, frauds of 150.000 pounds. Emma Charlton made her fiancé believe she was a successful business woman and stole almost 30.000 pounds from him. She also stole from her grandmother a number of 125.000 pounds. The 25-year-old Emma Charlto, formely known as Emma Golightly was noticed and arrested by the authorities when she tried to pay for a charity event, with a stolen check. Charlton has no money on the moment. She was taken from her cell to hear what punishment she would receive. Judge Brian Foster ordered her to pay back, only 1 pound.

I think it is wrong. Not only doesn’t she have to pay back the money, but keeping her in jail costs a lot of money too. It is horrible how she tricked the people who were close to her. I think that after she returns in to society she should work and pay back all the money. She is young and has all the time to pay back everyone. I don’t think she learns anything from that . It will only make her think ‘I can steal as much money I wasn’t and only have to pay back one pound.’

Disabled peer pleads against legalising assisted suicide

Last night (Tuesday 7 July 2009) the disabled Lady Cambell gave a passionate speech about why they shouldn’t pass the law that would legalize assisted dying. Lady Cambell believes that passing the bill will make doctors encourage disabled people to commit euthanasia. Lord Falconer, former chancellor wants to make the law on assisted dying more flexible. The law would allow people to help a terminally ill person across the border, to commit assisted suicide in a country where it is legal. The bill did not pass. Lady Cambell did not consider the fact that Lord Falconer’s law was aiming for terminally ill people and not disabled people. If Falconers bill pass two doctors should certify death and they would not be prosecuted. Lady Cambell said the law was not supported by disabled people.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2009/jul/07/disabled-peer-against-assisted-suicide

My opinion

I believe that Lady Cambell objected against the law for all the wrong reasons. She thinks that the bill is made for terminally ill and disabled people. If she listened better, she would know that Lord Falconer wants the law to be passed for the terminally ill. She believes that it will give the disabled and terminally ill the feeling that their lives are of no value anymore. First of all if you are terminally ill and have a disease which is ruining your last years with your loved ones, what value does it have? It has none. They say none should be deciding who should live, I think they are right. I also believe that the none should be deciding if you should suffer.

Press are more homophobic than the public

The Sun made a YouGov survey in which they ask the public: “Should gay people be cabinet ministers?” The press and the public have a different opinion about homosexuality. Most right winged news papers still allow homophobic articles, reviews and other news items. Even though 95 % of the people who replied, on The Suns YouGov survey, that they didn’t mind, didn’t know or even think it is a good thing to have a homosexual cabinet minister. Only 5 % thought gay people shouldn’t be in the cabinet. But the conservative press didn’t notice the public’s opinion. In January 2010 only 36% thought homosexuality is wrong; in 1983 it was 63%. The Suns statistics show that the public has gone liberal on homosexuality.

My opinion
It is really great to hear that the public is getting more and more liberal. Everybody is equal. It is out rages that news papers think they can talk like this, and that the PCC (Press Complaints Commission) rejected 25000 complaints. I hope the whole world will change their opinion on homosexuality. I hope they even stop talking about men that are homosexual as gay. When does your sexuality define who you are? You can’t print racist articles; you can’t print women unfriendly articles, so why do news papers think they can print homophobic articles? They should be fined because it is discrimination.

Scandal of aborted IVF babies

A lot of women that have changed their minds, choose abortion after they have been fertilized by IVF. Some of the women change their mind after they split with their husband or boyfriend. There are women that choose abortion because they have been pressured by their family. Doctors are worried about this phenomenon an family campaigners are accusing the women of treating having a baby as ‘‘designer goods’’. Each year an average of 80 abortions are carried out after IVF treatment in England , Wales and Scotland. Almost half of these women are aged 18 until 34 years old. Fertility specialists are shocked by the figures. A lot of them were not aware of so many post- IVF Abortion. Professor Bill Ledger said ‘‘each one is a tragedy’’.

Personal Opinion
This phenomenon is out rages. After going through so much trouble for IVF treatment and then changing your mind and breaking of your pregnancy, is crazy. If you do this you should seriously think about why you want a child. Is it a way to save your marriage? I believe that in this time where a lot of people are splitting up you should be realistic and think about being ready for a child when you are a couple but also about being ready for a child as a single woman. Making and having a baby isn’t like buying a fish and abortion isn’t like flushing your fish down the toilet.

Briton is first woman to row solo across Pacific

A British environmentalist has become the first woman to row across the Pacific Ocean on her own. A journey of 13,000- kilometer that almost took her life. A big crowd came to welcome Roz Savage, 42 and her 7 meter boat on Friday. Savage had crossed the Atlantic Ocean before, at that time it took her 103 days. Her was meant to make people aware of climate change and plastic polluting the ocean. Savage biggest health concern was a heat rash. During her trip her hook was separated from the boat and she tried to swim after it. When she got in the water the hook had drifted far away. She officially arrived Thursday evening but she could dock right away because she had to clear custom the next day.

Personal Opinion

I think this is an amazing way to make people aware of climate changes and other environmental problems. I also think it didn’t really help. People are more amazed about what she did, instead of why she did it. I think it is a bit pointless, instead of rowing and doing nothing else for 250 why not doing something that can help immediately to fight against climate change and pollution. I would never sail across the ocean on my own. I would be afraid of pirates or of drowning. I am really interested in how she felt during her trip.
